How do I repair a couch brace?
As you can kind of see in the photo, this support piece on the bottom of our sectional is broken. it has been repaired before and the wood is weak. I’m not a carpenter and have NO clue what to do. My husbands family is coming in tomorrow and they are not small people. I’m afraid someone will go straight through!! Lol
So sorry for the bad pics, but in the part you cannot see, the wooden brace was just held in to the top beam by multiple nails and has pulled away from all of them. Help!!!

Hi Mari! Couches seem to be notorious for this, but then they are used a great deal! There are some very good instructions listed below for you.

You basically need to rebrace the entire bottom. Cut wood to same size and screw it to the sides , use angle irons to reattach to main brace. Those made in China sofas use inferior woods and screws/staples, etc. Hopefully this will get you thru Thanksgiving. Good luck.
I would buy some new 2×4 and screw them in place with the screws hidden under the fabric. I know our hardware store will cut timber to size for us, if you dont have tools that might be an option for you.
