How can I solve my moldy bathroom issues?
I have a bathroom that gets moldy because theirs no window, so im getting quotes for a sky light.First guy said i need to replace the ceiling as well, and he will do the both for about a grand, but he didn't look in the roof space either. The second guy said he will put a skylight in but only can put it in a certain spot as when they put the tantastic light they damage the batons and that's why the ceiling needs re-sanding and painting as he did look in the roof space and explain all this to me, I don't know which way to go, as i wanted the skylight to hide the damage of the ceiling and now that isnt the case. what shall I do.

Skylight won't help. You need an exhaust fan, vented thru the roof. You used to get away with just a window that opened, but now code requires a vented fan. You can still put in a sky light for light but that will not stop your mold issue. Must have an exhaust fan. I'd talk to at least o e other contractor, it worries me no one told you that.
Clean ceiling with TSP for mold then prime and paint with good moisture resistant bathroom paint. If your going to spend any money just invest in good exhaust vent/fan for bathroom. Leave your bathroom door open for circulation, use towel to wipe down shower/bathtub walls after using to remove excess water. if it's glassed in shower stall leave door open after you get out for more air flow also, til it dries out some. You don't need a window or skylight to prevent mold. you need air flow which you can get other ways. Most skylights don't open anyway.
TSP is trisodium phosphate and is a very good cleaner. Joanne, you need to check the connection of your exhaust fan and the ductwork. if it is loose or disconnected, you are leaking moist air above the ceiling, which is not helping. You also need to make sure you are getting enough airflow into the bathroom. If you have a forced hot air system, then your air is coming from there. If you have only a radiator or no heat supply other than the exhaust fan, than you need a 3/4 inch opening under the door. Without enough air coming into the bathroom, the exhaust fan cannot do its job. Run it while anyone is showering and for 10-20 minutes after. Unless you ceiling is severely compromised by wetness and is structurally unsound, it does not have to be replaced.
Vinegar will kill the mold spores, bleach will not.

ALL excellent suggestions here. Regardless of what method you choose, better ventilation is the key. The ceiling will need to be sanded and repainted in order for it to be repaired properly.
