I really like this rug (24”x36”) but it’s given me a magic carpet ride across the hardwood floor more than once! I tried the gripping mats underneath but they don’t help much.
How do I make my throw rugs slip-proof?

It is necessary to use a rubberized no slip underliner made for this purpose.
Rug pads! For wood floors I would use a felt pad.

Hi Babs,
I have had luck with my wood floors and throw carpets not sliding (usually with me on it) by turning the carpet to its underside and outlining a strip with a hot glue gun. Make sure though it is completely cool and hardened before you place it back right side up back on your floor. This trick also works for socks-create little dots or slashes to the bottoms, cool and harden, and no more skid!........No more magic carpet rides!!!

Lowes or Home Depo can help I believe there is a two-sided tape.
Run a couple rows of caulking along the back or dots from glue gun will work also.
I get those waffle weave pads that go under rugs to keep them from slipping.
I just did this to my rugs to keep them in place, the Dollar Tree or any store has the no skid lining for shelves some are more porous than others, I cut strips to go around the rug and placed some in the center of the bigger one and hot glued them in place, I did spread the hot glue around with the tip of the glue gun for it to seep in better, I found the more porous ones to work better than the less porous.
Hot glue in wiggly lines on the underside or use silicone calking. I have used both before.
3M sells some rug plastic things that stick to the rug and to wood floors without damaging either. They are plastic and hold the rug down and in place whether over carpet or wood flooring. Got them on Amazon and they seems to just be called Protector.
This is old, but we used the mason jar rubber seals and sewed them on the back.
I have tried all the non-skid rug pads under throw rugs on my carpeted floor. My problem is that the whole thing still walks across the pier-and-beam floor. No sliding, just walking. Very irritating. Think the hot glue idea would help with that?
Hi I would trust the felt and feel safe. .those hard wood floors can hurt you bad if you fall .Be careful. .
When my bath set started slipping on the floor, I took a hot glue gun and made a pattern on the back with the hot glue. I tried to keep the lines of glue from being overly lumpy. Then when it cooled, I took nylon thread and put the large basting stitches on it to hold the glue in place (cuz hot glue tends to come loose). It
worked like a charm and still holding.
Joanns sells anti-skid gripper fabric or slipper gripper that is used when making slippers and it would work well.
Use Spray 90 glue and spray the back side of the rugs corners with a THICK layer of glue and let dry COMPLETELY (usually takes approx. 2 hrs.). After the glue is completely dry it should create traction so the rug does not slide and work like startch and add some weight so the corners don't roll up
Be careful and check the label on the gripper fabric. It may indicate it should not be used over wood floors as it may damage the varnish.
Walmart has Envirotex fiber-lock rug backing. That's what I'm going to try. Thanks for all your answers!
