When I clean my silver, I use a disposable aluminum baking pan large enough that the object will fit into. Then I add about a half cup to one cup of baking soda and pour into the pan with enough boiling water to cover the object. Stir the solution until the baking soda is dissolved and then submerge the object. If it is not completed covered, then turn it or move it so that the solution gets on every part. Since this tarnish removal is almost instant, it is very quick and easy to do. Afterward, just rinse and dry the object and you are finished. You can keep the pan for future use if you like.
I use a silver cleaner which can be purchased almost any grocery store. I put it on with a damp cloth then wait a little while and rub it off with a dry soft cloth. Pieces look really nice but it take a little time to really shine it up but you will be proud when you are finished.
