How do I make ink permanent on fabric?
I would like to stamp canvas tote bags with the kind of ink that you use with stamps and an ink pad. I would like to make the ink colorfast. Is there a trick to doing so? I know that when you dye clothes with a fabric dye that sometimes they recommend salt water to set the dye, but this is a different process. Any ideas would be welcome as I would like to give these as Christmas gifts. Thanks in advance for the advice.

Most people use acrylic craft paints to stamp on fabric. Then toss in the dryer to set the paint. You can try this. May work.
You can buy stamp pads suitable for fabrics. Set item with a hot iron. Cover ink with scrap fabric. Then apply hot iron. This should work.
