They need Sun ! Do not over water them !
It depends on where you live. If it snows, they need to be brought in over the winter and set in a sunny window.
Here in zone 9, mine live outside year round, but not in the sun, as they will fry. Summer is too hot with temps 100°+ in the shade. Mine live on the north side of the house year round protected from direct sun and shielded from wind in the winter. You might need to move them around till you find their happy place. Here are a couple excellent sites for reference.

We bought an 80 year old house 20 years ago. Originally it had 4 small fireplaces. My husband boarded up unused one. Recently he decided to clean it up and make Zen garden with cactus succulents in it. He installed a timer with 2 small grow lights, which are hidden in the brick work. This garden is beautiful and lets off oxygen 24 hours a day. This Zen garden is located in a room that used to be a bedroom now used as my office. Paying bills can be very stressful every month, BUT with this new Zen garden in the room it is relaxing to look at and makes paying the bills less stressful.
used to run a greenhouse so I know. keep them in relatively small pots for their size and in sandy soil. lots of sun!! mimic a desert when it comes to watering. a rainy season and then a long dry season. so water thoroughly then not at all for four to six weeks depending on the size of the container. the more soil the longer they will hold the water.
