Edit what goes up. Put up only those that make an impact. Little bits in each room
Have your elves do it Santa! If you have the money hire someone, get some kids to help you, your kids, grandkids, neighbor kids, check with local community services/organizations for kids needing community service points/badges. Just make sure they come back to help take them down-everyone wants to put them up but never get help taking them down & packing everything back up.
Well, Santa, personally I'd ask the elves to do it while I have a cup of tea. On the other hand, less-is-more always works. And I love the Command hooks for holding things in places where I don't want to damage the surface. Make sure what you use to decorate makes you feel good, don't overdo -- and if you're talking outside decorations like lights, I put mine low so I don't need a ladder. If that doesn't make you happy, then hire someone to do the climbing.
Santa, dearest! Use the lazy man's decor: yard strobes. Put one on the workshop and one on the main house. They even come with changeable discs so you can have Christmas trees illuminated on the walls, or snowflakes, or reindeer! And colors! They can change from red to green to blue to white. Oh what fun...! No stress, no muss.
Focus on the rooms that you frequent. Decorating shouldn't be stressful and if it's stressful, its not worth it. Decorating should bring you joy.
Merry, merry! My best advice is don't try to do it all at once. I've been turning on Christmas music and doing a little each evening since Thanksgiving. House looks great and only a few more spots to go. :)
Oh Santa, decorating should be fun, not stressful! Put on some holiday music, have some nice warm beverage, or a glass of wine and do what you can. Even an hour a night, you can get a lot done. Focus on public rooms first.
Since there will be no visitors this year, I only did my porch and yard.
Never ever feel pressured by all the magazines and holiday blogs where homes are dressed to the nines - that's how they make a living, most people really don't live that way.
This year, I unchained my inner elf on Thanksgiving day. (I had extra time because I prepared ham and the dinner prep was easier).
I, (sorry, my elf) starts with artificial evergreen garland. It's easy to unpack and makes a huge impact very quickly. My elf puts it everywhere... on window sills...hanging at the top of windows on tension poles... on and under accent tables, coffee tables, buffets. Later on she tucks in ornaments and floral picks of berries and greenery. Finally, she sets up the tree and other holiday displays and puts timers on any lighted items. My elf is getting up there in age. She doesn't like crawling around on the floor anymore so the village and trains that used to be set up under the tree have been left in boxes for the last few years. I let her dictate what gets done and how long it takes.
We're almost completely ready, just one more area downstairs to finish up.
