Are you talking one crack or cracks like a spiderweb? What ever you do it must be covered by dry wall tape. See you tube for mudding drywall.
Need to dig out the crack to at least 1/2" , apply drywall tape and mud over it. You tube have videos for you to watch.
If it is a crack that can be filled watch this video

There are a couple of things to consider. If your walls have texture you will need to consider how you'll cover your patch to recreate the the texture. If you use putty to fill something my father taught me is to spray, lightly, the area you are patching first. The reason is the dry plaster will pull moisture out of your patching material drying the edges faster. Plus it will dry the patching material faster than it would normally. When you tape over a crack you will need to do a lot more feathering to blend the raised area out. Don't short cut this other wise the repair will always show and be an issue.
Should you need to retexture your plaster, please see https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gW2w8hzLn8k for excellent advice.
