How to replace shower head pipe?
How do I replace the pipe that comes out of the shower wall? I need to replace the dual shower heads, but when I took the old unit off, the threads were rusted and started to break off. Do I need to call a plumber?Veronica Krzywicki rkrzywicki@triad.rr.com 12361 Vivian St., Bishopville, MD 21813

Call a reputable plumber.
Not sure what started to break??? the shower head or pipe coming out of wall?? If it just shower head put Liquid Wrench on it then let sit and then remove fixture. If you have damaged pipe coming from wall you will need plumber to get in the wall to replace the pipe. make sure to use big wrench for easier removal not pliers use 2 one to hold pipe and one to loosen shower head and plumbers tape on threads on new shower head to keep from leaking.
You don't need a plumber. It's easy for a DIY. That's why they sell replacements.

I would get a plumber to do the job. If that pipe is bad, there may be other pipes close to that condition behind the wall, too. Why not make sure everything is good. We wanted to change out the faucet in our tub/shower and the opening was pretty small to get at it. We called a plumber friend and he did it when he had some extra time and ended up changing out a number of pipes back there that were at the iffy stage. It definitely eaves us future headaches with other pipes going bad in the future. He did that with some other pipes in the basement by the water main when we had a leak and put on other new pipes for us also. Being friends and neighbors, he did it at a steep discount.
