How to care for a rosemay plant that has been outdoors for the season?
I want to take in my rosemary plant from the back yard. Do I need to do something special to maintain its growth?

Hi, Fran,
They require a very high light level, and are sometimes prone to mites, when grown indoors. If you're simply moving it to a sunnier spot, so long as the soils are similar, it should do well. Dig up the plant to include the full width of roots and it's attached soil, to the original planting depth. Move to it's new site, and add a light layer of mulch, if desired. If you're in a hot climate, provide a small amount of water, but fertilizer should not be necessary.
Hi Fran, here is a site that tells you how to get it to bloom.

Is it in container already? They need sun-sunny window southern exposure, clay pot is best but they do not tolerate transplanting at all. Just make sure it has good drainage, never let bottom of pot sit in water,no drafts hot or cold, water thoroughly then dry, dry, dry. These are drought tolerant plants. If it starts to loose leaves save them to use in cooking, olive oil, bathwater. If it starts to loose leaves cut off parts after they are dead not dying. If stems branches are woody it may just come back in spring when you put it back out.
I always keep my rosemary outside in pots in the summer. then when cold weather comes all I have to do is take them inside. Don't over water and make sure your rosemary gets lots of light. They die back a little ut come back once they adapt to the inside.
Rosemary plants are outside, year-round plants. In Texas, they are used as hedges. I have seen them grown as 4' tall in a hedge row around an apartment complex for seniors. It was truly beautiful. Smelled good, too. I had a rosemary bush that grew to 3' tall and bushed out to about 4' in diameter. We had to keep it trimmed. It did like water, it lived thru snow and ice , heat , and very high temperatures here in West Texas. It never came inside.
I live in Iowa. I planted rosemary and sagein my yard 20 years ago and they comes back every year!
