The best thing we found is called Simple Green. Walmart has it in the auto/boat/camping section in concentrate. We use the concentrate for this. It disinfects and deodorizes. You may need to pull up that section of the carpet to clean the pad also. Then retack it down. Simple Green is non toxic to people and pets, but it sure disinfects and deodorizes well.
Here are some tips: https://spotremoval.coit.com/how-to-remove-urine-from-carpet
Blot all liquid with paper towels. Mix an oxygenated cleaner like OxyClean or Awesome Orange (my favorite) powder with water to make a paste. Let paste sit on the stain for a few minutes. Then take a wet rag and wipe it into the stain and rinse until all powder residue is removed. Wipe the spot dry. It should be cleaner and fresher smelling.
Chlorox Urine Remover works and doesn't have a perfumey odor of it's own. Found it on Sam's website.
