Hi Jan, not if they are done correctly. I painted my kitchen cabinets 5 years ago using cabinet paint then sealed with a polyurethane and they are still in great shape. A lot of the newer products require no prep work and have everything in them. Inquire at your paint stores and they will point you in the right direction.
that depends on how well you do your prep to paint them. I prefer to take the finish off to the bare wood, clean well, prime then 2 coats of paint- with a paint designated for kitchens .i have seen talk about "sealing the paint" with a clear coat that's basically Bull- crap. use a quality paint, do the proper prep, let the coats of paint cure b/4 using.
I agree with Dfm above, paint doesn't need a clear coat unless it is thinned or altered. I Use oil based paint and primer because it is so durable. But I know it is not available everywhere.
Thank you all for your answers. That helps.
Hi Jan! I can tell you how to paint your kitchen cabinets with Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint so they will not scratch!
It is super easy to paint with Dixie Belle:
Step one: Clean with White Lightning
Step two: If the surface is slippery, apply two coats of Slick Stick
Step three: Paint one to two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint
Step four: Use Gator Hide for a water-repellent finish
I am attaching some kitchens that have been painted with Dixie Belle Paint so you can see the outcome.
