Hello
The modern spray paint formations with primer and paint work wonderfully. Clean your item prior to painting.
You may need to lightly sand them to get the paint to adhere properly. I would use a paint for metal in this coats to prevent runs or brush strokes if using a brush.
I would use a spray paint with primer already in it
No primer needed. Just light sand with 200 grit sandpaper or a green kitchen scrubby to dull the shine. Use Rustoleum spray paint for metal. Several light coats will give you a smooth finish.
I gave my shiny gold lamps a few coats of the blue zinnser primer and then painted them with whatever paint I wanted to use. The primer is really important so you don't get scratches. Even with paint that says will adhere to metal. It's always best to be safe than sorry in my opinion!
