Use vinegar and water or commercial floor cleaners
Hi Kathleen. I'm Cindy. For deep cleaning, make a solution of one cup of vinegar and one gallon of water. Immerse a clean mop into the solution and then wring it out to damp-dry. Go over the entire floor with this mop rinsing it out often. After that use Murphy's Oil Soap according to directions on the bottle. I recommend this product because the soap will give ultra clean and the oil will condition the wood. Good luck Kathleen and Happy Holidays.
1 cup apple cider vinegar
1 Tbsp blue Dawn
2 gallons hot water
Will remove residue
1 cup hydrogen peroxide
2 gallons hot water
Will disinfect and clean
Either of these will take a few applications if they haven't been cleaned in a long time. Wring mop to damp because this is still water to wood.
You may want to invest in a steam mop, I have a Shark.
My floors are about 20 years old and still look like new. I recently used the vinegar method on some floors that had a deep build up and it took 3 passes to get them truly clean.
Rejuvenate makes a floor restorer you may want to look into once you get them clean.
