Hi ! When I bought my retirement home I knew I had my work cut out for me , bringing it out of the 1970's ! I not only had came butcher block countertops , but they were running in the wrong direction !!! So until I can afford new stone counters , I painted mine !!! I chose advance paint by Benjamin Moore , and also got their primer. I cleaned and lightly sanded with a sanding sponge , wiped up the dust, using a damp cloth, let dry. Then I used 1 coat of primer and 2 coats of paint . Am very happy with the results ! You can see the step by step process on my tutorial , kitchen re do from ugly 1970's to vintage cottage.
another thing you can do , which I might have tried, had I known about it , is using featherweight concrete, look into that, if it fits into your style .
Take a good photo to the home improvement store and ask for their advice. I always get great ideas from them...and tips on how to do it!
I agree with Fiddledd224. I would add that a smaller store might have a wider range of ideas. Too often I find young folks working in the paint department at the big box stores and their knowledge is limited.
Hi Janet! That is a great question. I have listed some information that possibly will help you with your needs. Good luck. Happy Holidays to you!
