A number of years back, I lived in a house that had a crazy amount of moss in the back yard. We asked at a home improvement store how to minimize the moss, and they directed us to a bag of lime. We went home and sprinkled it all over the yard liberally, with one of those hand spreaders with the crank handle on the side. We planted some Bermuda grass, and within a few months most of the moss was gone. It would have been quicker if we had better drainage, but the back yard was in a really low spot, so it was always damp for a long time after rain.
Essentially, you want to raise the pH of the soil so it's a more conducive environment for grass and less conducive for moss. Good luck!

I found that once the trees were taken down, the moss problem went away. Wet and shade allows mold to flourish. Here is excellent information on moss!
