There are books on companion planting, ie carrots love tomatoes is one. The seed packets will give you good info as well, how deep to plant the seeds, how long it should take to maturity, ie when to pick or harvest,
ertian plants will do better in a certain soil acidity.. that requires a soil testing meter. Your county e tension office may have a master gardener on call. They have a wealth of information that is practical for gardens. To be a master gardener, you have to donate hours helping wanna be gardeners, and a few of us who have moved from one planting zone to a new one.
