How can I cover an old Formica bedroom wall unit?

It is a light gray marble color and can't be replaced because it has tons of storage. It has two closets one on each side of an attached bed.

Annierock, Unless you have contact paper on it now, use contact paper,. It's easy to clean, just wipe with a wet rag and dry it. Aloha!
You can also paint it with chalk paint. You’ll need to clean it first, then apply your first coat of chalk paint. Let it dry and cure for at minimum of 24 hours, then apply a second coat and let that dry as well. You can then seal with a wax or a polycrylic sealer. Make sure you give it plenty of time to cute over the next few weeks by treating it gently. You can still use it, but try to avoid scratching the paint until it’s completelh hardened.
Annie: Why cover? Simple prime and paint with a couple of coats of a good latex paint. (Also... chalk paint will work. See link:)
