I don't think you can totally avoid the tarnishing process if your items are left out, but you can definitely slow it down!
I've always been told that keeping silver out of direct sunlight is the best way to avoid quick tarnishing. I have two silver pots that belonged to my grandmother. I've had them in a hutch since August and they're still tarnish-free. Light still shines into the room the hutch is in, but the pots aren't hit with it directly! So perhaps the same idea can be applied to your necklaces with a windowed jewelry box or something?
Exposure to air and humidity causes tarnish, so leaving out it will tarnish.
Polish it with a clean cloth daily will keep it tarnish free.
Just need to do regular cleaning of silver
