How do I create more storage in my home?
OK one thing I forgot to mention a couple of weeks ago we had a pipe burst so we have the entire condo replumbed we are now having a bout with about eight holes in the drywall and everything that used to go there ever go around there is now in the middle of each room and completely on organized because we have no drywall guy yet so nothing is being done and I’m trying to make the best of it but I need someone to help me come up with some ideas for the laundry room and the bathroom my clothes in the bedroom and her playroom. This is something you need to do yourself, without your husbands input. Apparently he can't see past the current state of your walls. Things like simple IKEA bookshelves with plastic or fiber bins can organize a lot of small stuff like toys and childrens clothing. Look at the IKEA website, or the container store website for ideas. But you will need to get the drywall repaired and rooms painted before anything gets better. Most Handymen could handle that job cheaper than a sheetrocker or professional painter.
Ignore your husband. Calculate how much vertical and horizontal storage you need by laying things on your bed, then measure. Take a photo of the items, noting the dimensions needed. Realize that most free standing closets rarely exceed 36" wide, 24" deep. Chests of drawers rarely exceed 10-12" in height for each drawer.
Then, go shopping and locate what could work for you.
You should not have an excessive amount of additional space, as your husband fears.
For the present, can you obtain hanging, moveable "closets" that can be zippered closed to avoid dust settling on them? Fabric bins or collapsible bins are another option.
