Hi Suzy. I'm Cindy. Weed fabric will help keep weeds from sprouting up in your flower beds. It comes in several thickness. The most thick will last years longer and costs more. The least thick will last only one year and costs the least. I usually go with mid-level. Once you put weed fabric down, you need to secure it to stay in place. I use large decorative rocks to keep mine in place. You will also need to put something down on top of the fabric. I use mulch, but you can also use rocks, grass clippings, etc. Between the fabric and mulch, I keep the weeds at bay. Once in a while a weed will pop up, and when it does, I pull it out, roots and all. Good luck Suzy.
Clean, tape and label free basic brown cardboard shipping boxes will degrade over time to become part of the earth. You can place them right over weedy areas or better, pull all weeds, then cover with cardboard. Single layer leaving room around each plant so it can get water then cover eith mulch.
It’s not permanent but it lasts a very long time and keeps cardboard out of landfill too.
Hello!
Permanently? Concrete patio and independent planters or a full time gardener realistically.
Otherwise weeds are an on going war MANAGED with fabric barrier, mulch and possibly preen.
I have found the Preen products are pretty helpful. Check out reviews and the Q&A here to see if it could be used for your gardens weed eradication needs. There are different formulations to include organic.
