How can I resurface Formica?
My black Formica is very well worn (white shows through right from installation). Can I paint it? Melamine maybe? Any other ideas? Thanks!

You can paint Formica. This is what I did. It has lasted on a table for over 2 years now, with no chipping or anything.
Lightly sand all surfaces you wish to paint. This roughs the surface so the next primer will adhere to the Formica. I then used Kilz Latex Primer. I applied 2 coats, let each dry, and sand lightly between coats. Then apply your latex paint. I used a high gloss to ensure I would get the sheen of the original Formica. I applied 2 coats, again, letting them each dry and then sand each coat lightly before applying the next coat. I chose to apply the paint with a small roller (as I was doing a relatively small bar top table.) The roller prevented having any brushstrokes show.
A table top takes a lot less abuse than a countertop. They make kits for that sold at Home Depot . Step by step instructions are in the kit. Good luck.
