How can I stain a vinyl floor?
We moved into a home with sheet vinyl on the kitchen floor. There is nothing wrong with the vinyl but I don't like the color. Can I apply a wood stain over it?

No, no you can't. Wood stain seeps into the porous grain of of the wood. However, you can use a gel stain then seal it - well with a non yellowing sealer. Any paint store or home improvement center will have what you need.
Stencil it to your liking.
It won’t absorb the stain but you can paint it.
Wood stain won't work but you could consider painting it.
