How can I clean textured, rough celings?

I live in a mobile home and it has the rough textured white ceilings and I hate them. The only way one can clean them is to repaint, but with a power sprayer. I don't want to do that --but how can I clean them without the texture flaking off??

It sounds like you have what is called popcorn ceilings. The popcorn can be removed if it has not been painted before. although it is messy. Put down tarps, spray a section of the ceiling with warm water, when it has soaked in, scrape off the wet area. When completed, sand smooth any rough areas, prime and paint.
Please, be aware that old popcorn ceilings had fiberglass in it so you need to wear a breathing mask.
Weve had success with just painting our textured mobile home ceiling. We used a thick piled roller to get paint in all the grooves.
Hi Marlene, can you send a picture and possibly tell us what the ceilings are made of?
Have you tried vacuuming them?
