Hi Kara, this is Peggy. Here at my fav you can find how to make fake roses and they look so real and beautiful. Good luck with your project. How to make your own silk rose! | Crafts | Fabric flowers, Making fabric ...

Start with Paper twirled around your pinky or thumb before Moving Up to Silk or Velvet. Always Fold never cut as a Very Basic Rule to any Origami or Art, be that paper or fabric of even a Backing for a Nylon Lampshade you intend to Paint by Numbers. Never Cut. So, Eventually by working with paper to progress to fabrics, you get the Design you folded and approve.
This helps you alot when pressing the silk to that shape (because Silk is harder to do and work with than paper or construction paper, as silk is slippery: Both on itself and your pinky plus silk is harder to glue).
Thus when you graduate to silk or ribbon you not only need to Press to transfer that Pattern (on Low) to the Silk or Ribbon you also may find that a Hair Pin or even a Wooden Clothespin assists much with preventing the silk, velvet and other hard to work with materials from unfurling as you glue or stitch.
Sorta like Fancy Christmas bows, It takes practice. But the more you make, the more routine it is to make them.
If you are going to make more than 50, you may as well get a Pattern for Ribbon and understand that You can make your own ribbon out of Any Fabric. Pattern Sale and other patterns too can be found here:
