A box of moth balls will keep cats out of an area. They dissolve in the air and do not harm the environment, but be careful if you have toddlers at your neighbors' homes. Let people around you know when you put them out, if they have smaller children that may wander into your yard.
Mothballs, Rue plants, Rosemary plants, sprays of garlic, clove, orange, lemon, etc.
