How to build a deck?

I want to build a deck under a large tree where I can't grow grass. I need it to be high enough for flood irrigation to pass underneath. I would like it to wrap around the base of the tree. Maybe even some built in seating would be nice.

I did that once. Put support posts - maybe concrete piers with metal saddles - around perimeter of deck area. You don't want to disturb the tree roots and kill the tree. Put landscape fabric and maybe some gravel under the deck to keep weeds from growing. Your deck would be built like any other deck. Build a frame supported on the posts, add decking boards, and treat the decking to prevent weather damage. Keep the deck away from the trunk since the tree will get bigger around each year.
