I don't have very good luck with succulents, I don't know why they are supposed to be hard to kill. How often should I water the plants?

Hi Karen. Over watering is a killer. Make sure they're in a location that gets alot of sun & water them only every 2 weeks! Be sure they are in pots that have holes in the bottom for drainage. The soil only needs to be damp not soggy.
I spritz mine with a spray bottle just enough to dampen a bit each week. It is a mixture of water and a micro nutrient and they have thrived. I also have gravel in the bottom of the pot & mixed in with the potting soil. You can purchase potting soil specifically formulated for succulents.
Inside? Outside? In ground? In pots?
Overwatering is the number one mistake. Craft invaders provided an excellent site. I am in zone 9 and have in pots and in ground. My watering practices are tailored to my location as it is hot and extremely dry most of the year. Mine grow like weeds over the winter.
Thanks to everyone that answered me. This will help me out.
Hi Karen, succulents don't need a lot of water. The best way to tell is to insert a pencil or a skewer into the pot, all the way down to the bottom. If the skewer comes out clean and dry, your succulents need water. We have a huge collection of succulents and they are so rewarding.
