Floral preservative works great and usually is included with grocery store flower bundles. Keep bacteria from forming in water, so change water every three days, rinse out vase and rinse stems, cut fourth inch off bottom of stems, and replace with fresh (unsoftened) water with a new of preservative or in a pinch an aspirin. Also keeping flowers cool, like putting in the frig at night, greatly extends life.
Combine these both #1& #2 for best care. #1 best way*****Flowers in the fridge at bed time/&or while at work. Typically in there for about eight hours, it keeps flowers fresh well through day 7. It makes sense that florists keep their flowers inside a large refrigerator.#2****Apple Cider Vinegar & Sugar — 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar and 2 tablespoons sugar mixed with the vase water before adding the flowers. Flowers need sugar as food. Sugar is a substantial ingredient in flower food packets. The problem is, sugar accelerates bacterial growth. And you get those gunky, slimy leaves around day 4 to prove it. The solution is to add an acid. Enter vinegar, the bacteria-fighting agent to combat any damage the sugar creates, change out the water (and replenished the same ingredients into each vase) on day 3.Keep stems freshly cut & at angle for larger absorption area, fresh cutting them every 3 days when changing water solution and remove all leaves in water inside the vase.
Change the water regularly and be sure any leaves on the stem are not underwater. Adding a bit of 7-up soda will help too, as the sugar helps.
I will try the 7 up next time I have flowers thanks
Change the water regularly and make sure that the flower get enough sunlight to maintain the freshness
