I have a lot of the soft-net shower poofs and it seems a waste to just throw them away. Any ideas on how to re-use them?

Shadow box them! I have stuff going back to the late 1800's but can't read half of it as it is in various European languages, none of which I read, write or speak. Mine are in boxes and I have no idea what to do with them either. Since I have no heirs, I might just give away to anyone that wants them.
You could make a collage and frame it.
Oh my goodness! You have the genealogists dream. Unfortunately it can also seem a white elephant of a treasure, storing, keeping safe, etc. The first thing I might do is scan every document. That may seem daunting, but it makes it easier to get the records into the hands of those who appreciate it. You could also take those letters and put them into books using self publishing/print on demand services like blurb.com. After digitizing your collection, I suggest you look up archival storage of documents and follow the protocols for storage.
Could I decoupage them without damage.
