How do I help my Hydrangea?
I have a hydrangea I have not taken good card of for about 2 years. Family had health issues and yard got neglected. It was not trimmed down what should I do?

Leave it for now on trimming, that should be done as the flowers begin to fade. The quicker the better. In the mean time, water deeply once a week. More if you are having really hot weather.
Wait and see what gets any buds on it. Then clip back to that point. This should be done early summer.
Hydrangeas like acidic soil so you could fertilize it with sulfur or cottonseed meal. Azalea or camellia fertilizer would work well too. Too much sun in the South may burn the leaves. Partial sun works best.
If the leaves are budding or have already leafed out, trim back any dead wood that is on your hydrangea. That will make it look neater until you know what kind of hydrangea it is and the best time to trim it back.
