How do I repel raccoons?
Hi Home talk, We have a large lot & part of it is fenced for our dogs. The rest of our property is right over a creek & partially wooded. Racoons are plentiful & get into our fenced area and Raised Beds. Anything I can do ( as in around fence area) to discourage them from coming in??? Our Siberian husky has Gotten a hold of a few also & I hate that she has. We just buried another one. Thanks for your help.

I used to feed of a bunch of wild raccoons but I didn't have any dogs. I've heard that they were afraid of dogs. Raccoons have a very good sense of smell, and they do not like the smell of pepper. You can make a liquid pepper repellent that may keep raccoons away. To make the pepper repellent, get a bottle of hot sauce or a jar or can of cayenne pepper. Put it in a spray bottle and it spray around. You'll have to do that every few days because the smell goes away.
All I can say is what we did. We purchased a have a heart trap for raccoons and every time we caught one we drove at least 5 miles away before we set it loose. After awhile I guess we had gotten the entire family and we saw no more. Thank God!
We don't have dogs but an empty lot behind our house. Squirrels were everywhere, running up and down our pool cage and onto the roof of our house. I guess squirrels don't want to be anywhere around hawks. We found a hawk call video online and played it several times (on our cell phones at high volume) whenever the squirrels were active. Problem solved!
