How do I make my traditional dining room furniture more informal?

I have traditional dining room furniture that I need to keep but I need help transitioning the room to be more informal. Any ideas?

    Use a non formal fun rug. Fun wallpaper fresh fabric on chairs and window treatment. More contemporary chandelier.

    If you want to change the style of the table, you could always replace the legs to a more modern leg and then put wood on the top and stain or paint to go with the décor you want. Changing things around like the lights, curtains, paint, even the fabric on the seat of the chairs can change a room.

    Agree w Kelli. I have my mother's very formal Queen Anne cherry Ethan Allen table and six chairs. I changed the chair fabric, have a light and airy paper on the walls and an area rug beneath...no longer quite so formal. Husband objected or I would have painted just the legs of the table, leaving the cherry top. Good luck!
