Hi Donna,
We use ours for a lot of storage. They work for everything from holiday lights to out of season clothes and more. I usually take the label off then use a stick-on label (from a paper store) to designate what is in the container. If you want them to look special you could spray paint them different colors or even create a design with paint. You could also use contact paper, glued on wall paper or even decoupage to create a look you like. You could remove the tops and put them top forward to create shelves. They could be glued together with a cut up pool noodle making up the difference due to the tapering sides. Just glue the pool noodles in between the bottoms so they end up straight. I hope some of this helps or inspires you. Wishing you the best.
We use ours to refill them with clay cat litter and put one in each of our 3 vehicles for when the roads are icy/snowy. Clay cat litter is great for getting unstuck. My husband used it just yesterday on a friend when we had an unexpected ice storm. It happens even in the lower USA states.
we use the litter containers for tools we need to do small projects and also for bulbs, etc when working in the yard- I use them to put weeds and debris in and for bird seed as well.

which kind? lrg tubs with snap on lids? plactic jug type screw on lids? lrg plastic bags it comes in?
I paint the outside and use them for outside storage (garden tools or ice melt) I also use them when I garden, as planters or carry buckets.
I catch rain water for my garden and the smaller ones that
look like wide mouth gallon jugs make a nice point of use storage for water and planters.
I turned the plastic jug type on its side, with the handle down, then cut off the side that is facing upward, including the pour hole. I have tupperware lids "filed" in one .
If you have an old end table hide it in there put curtains around it .
