Bleach is you culprit. Makes whites dingy and yellow. Breaks down fibers over time. I use hyrdrogen peroxide when I was my whites. Most oxygen based detergents are peroxide based.

Wash with bleach and oxy cleaner
Liquid Lysol in wash water or spotting solution. Dilute the Lysol before putting on stains
