Hi Judy, there are climbing plants that thrive in shade. I would visit your local nursery and ask what's best in your area, but here's a general article that may help. https://www.daviddomoney.com/top-varieties-climbers-for-shade/

You can paint it, stain it, apply German schmear.
Now it all depends on what effect you're looking for. If you like the Old English look, which I am fond of and is basicly timeless, if you can find or purchase some green moss, mix it up with equal parts of natural yogurt in a blender into a nice "slush". Paint this on wet brick (you can water it down with a hose) and just watch it grow. Keep it moist way with a gentle spray bottle and it will develop on it's own. Also, I would use this as a magnificient back drop to a fern collection. Adding compost to the base of the wall would be good to amend the soil before planting. Some ornamental elements such as large rocks would give it a natural effect. Even Ivy could grow and cling to the bricks with it's tendrils. Easy to control, since just cut it back to where you want, or train it to go it whatever direction. Even an old dried out tree stump would create interest.... Hope we've got your creative juices flowing!
Just have fun with it! Make it your own. And German Schmear is awesome too!! Check that out ;-)
Wonderful suggestions that I had not thought of thanks to all who responded.
