How to clean an old drop ceiling with tile & metal dividers?
Our ceilings in living room & dining room are pourus, with metal dividers, both discolored just from years of being up there. How do I freshen it all? No budget for replacement. We have squirrels in winter, so I really do not want to remove tiles to clean them as who knows what "yuck" is up there! Do I paint? Can I wash or will they be even worse and streaky? What about the metal dividers: paint, wash, or another option. I will appreciate help from those of you with this issue. In Western New York, it is cold, and furnace runs a lot in winter which the discoloration is partly due from as we heat with fuel oil. Thanks for ideas---I am "grateful Barb"

I would paint them. You will probably need several coats but use the killz primer to help cover all the nasty stuff
I agree with paint. Do not wash them. They can fall apart. Prime with Kilz primer them paint.
If you don't want to take down, the only way to paint would be to spray because running a int roller will push them up. Must use oil paint on the metal so it doesn't rust.
Paint after you use the Kilz. You can always use a paint like Rustoleum on the metal dividers, they have lots of metallics and even textures to change it up if you want.
