If you have plaster of paris, that works nicely. Mix a small amount with water to form a paste, then mix that with paint. It only stays good for a few days, but the coverage is excellent!
Hello Sandra! I like the plaster of paris recipe the best. Just make sure you stir it well so your paint mixture is smooth and stir occasionally as you are painting. I keep my homemade mixture in canning jars with canning lids. It will last for at least a month this way. Make sure initially that you mix enough paint for your project. https://refreshliving.us/the-best-diy-chalk-paint-recipe

Affordable DIY Chalk Paint: How To Make Your Own With Baking Soda
I've chalk painted over a hundred pieces of furniture trying every recipe out there. My favorite recipe that gives the most professional results is using Calcium Carbonate mixed with any latex paint---4 TBLSP per cup of paint. Mixing is easy---I mix with an old wire whisk and the ingredients blend very easily. I know you wanted something that you could make using ingredients you already have and you probably don't have the Calcium Carbonate---but it is easy to find online and worth it. You can store the mixed recipe for months without worrying about drying out. The finish is much smoother and dries silkier than other mixtures I've tried using the baking soda or plaster of paris. You can order the Food-Grade Calcium Carbonate in a 1 or 5 pound bag online at Amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HHJQB4K/ref=sspa_dk_detail_4?psc=1
or other sites. Good luck!
