How do I know how much water to give my orange tree this summer?
How do I know how much water to give my orange tree this summer. It is on a drip system. We live in the low desert of Arizona and are gone from May to October. When I bought it last oct it had 2 oranges on it. I have 3 drip emitters on it. What is the length of time I should set and how often a week. Soil is pretty sandy. Should I shade, it is in full sun.

I live in AZ desert too citrus trees especially Orange are really drought tolerant and need full sun. They need deep watering 1x a month or less depending on what time of year it is here, then to dry out well between. How tall? How old is it? What kind of oranges? How wide is the canopy? these factors determine how much water your tree needs. you'll need to determine the gallon output of your emmiters if your tree is young the drip system alone will not be enuf all summer trees need deep water on top of drip system we are already getting in high 80 low 90 next week. study this stuff for some info. https://extension.arizona.edu/sites/extension.arizona.edu/files/pubs/az1151.pdf where are you? Phoenix area?
Hi Bonnie, hope this helps you out, The first noticeable sign of water stress in a citrus tree is leaf curling. Soil should be wetted from the trunk of the tree to just beyond the drip line, to a depth of at least two feet. Citrus should be irrigated every 7 to 28 days depending on season and soil type.
