First go to a closet co store and get ideas of what you need and want. Draw,up a layout, make a list of materials, can buy at Home Depot. Have fun.
It would be helpful if you could post a picture so we can see your closet. It's hard to know what you have to work with without a picture! Thanks!
The master bedroom closet in my house could have been a tiny bedroom in a smaller house. Challenges to making the most of that closet are much different from maximizing a 20" deep 3-foot wide closet. When I invited a professional closet designer in to make a recommendation their first question was what I wanted to store in the closet; there is no standard answer for how to lay out a closet.
Could you share photos or describe what you have? A good starting place is to tell us what are the dimensions of the closet and what you would like to store?
A quick and easy answer is to choose a Closet Maid or Rubbermaid closet kit that will fit your space. The kits are very customizable so that you can arrange the closet for the way you want to use it. If you find that your needs change you can rearrange it later to store different things.
Hi there,
One of the big things I've done with closets over the years was to remove the rod and replace it with 2 rods. One higher and one lower. Each one measured so that clothes would fit properly. I stopped the lower rod part way across the bottom to leave an area that was longer for dresses other long items. For a child's closet, I made that part into shelves for shirts and pants. In our adult closet, there was room at the end to add slated shelves to hold shoes. I got belt hangers and created a scarf hanger with shower rings on a hanger. I hope some of these ideas help you in your particular situation. Wishing you the best.
How big is your closet, are there any windows, how many doors and where are they? Get graph paper and draw out what would work for you. There are a lot of examples online to give you ideas.
