Hello there, I have a Murphy bed myself, but I didn't make it . It is made of metal and I don't do that. To have made it with wood might have made it too heavy. and you would still have had to buy the metal components. Might be cheaper for you to look for a used murphy bed, and maybe change the mattress. My bed hinges up from the base and then the legs fold down. It fits inside a wardrobe. They also make the ones that look rather like a radiator cabinet when closed up. Had you thought about a Z bed as they are easy enough to hide up or box in. Good luck anyway..........
We made a hide-a-way bed using a popup trundle bed for our daughter's "tiny house". When the trundle bed is elevated, it makes her twin size bed into a king bed. Here is the tutorial: https://www.simplicityinthesouth.com/make-built-in-trundle-bed-cabinets/
