How do I get a very bad musty smell out of a living room chair?
I bought it at a yard sale not knowing it was musty. The man told me it was sitting in a basement. Any ideas? Thanks.

What kind of chair? If its a wooden chair, clean it and sand it, perhaps new polyurethane or paint. If its upholstery, hopefully it has seat cushions that zipper off and you can wash that and any pads, and dry them in the sun. If the whole chair is upholstered, you can scrub it down outside, like you would a car, and let it dry in the sun. If the smell persists, you may have to get a professional to steam clean it. If all else fails, you may have to have the chair reupholstered.
febreeze works great.....and leave outside in the sun
Yes , let it sit in the sun outdoors ! Don't do it on a humid day ! And don't let it sit out over night ! You can also sprinkle with baking soda , then vacuum it off each day .
You will probably need to do this 3 or 4 times . If you still have a small you can try putting it in a large plastic bag with some scented dryer sheets for a while .
Good luck !!
Hi Janet,
Use Febreze for fabric. May need to do it a time or two to get out all the smells.......Best of luck.
Janet...I would use Febreze and put outside in the sun.
Thanks everyone!
