Scrape off what you can with something plastic like a credit card. Then use rubbing alcohol, WD40, or Goof Off to remove any residue.
Hi Ardith. You likely won't have any options to get it off once it has dried except to sand it. If it is a small area, you could try a fine grit sandpaper and sand slowly. As soon as it gets to the oak, you can stop. If it is a larger spot or you want to redo it with paint, you can take an orbital sander to it. Good luck!
I too think that sanding it off is about the only option. I would try to use 400 grit sandpaper and just scrub on the nail polish. 400 grit shouldn't scratch up the oak too much because it's very fine. If you scratch the oak just a bit, you can go over it with Old English to blend it back into the finish.
Hello Ardith,
Dip Cotton bud in weak (Add drop water) nail varnish remover. Gently wipe across the mark and blot with tissue. Repeat as often as required hopefully it will dissolve without damaging the Oak. Best wishes.
