I only plant perennials. Annuals are a constant and costly project. I add new plants each year and like mine to be in the same color range. Along my garage hillside I have yellow, orange and white, thus, black eyed Susans, lilies, daffodils and daisies. My front walkway is shady to partial sun so I picked hosta and rhododendron and azalea for color. The side along my property line is wild flowers of all color. I am adding in a few more lilacs, iris and lilies this year. I want to spend money on thing that will come back each year without spending money on replenishing flowers with only one years enjoyment. I have one area on the side with pinks and purples so I have spirea, iris, lavender and azalea in pink/

I love petunias because they come in every color, spread out all summer, are low maintenance, and smell heavenly. Also woodisinkifoil for bushes, also holly bushes, and I love crocus as they come up early, as well as tulips and day lillies. Day lillies bloom early and last all summer and are perennials.
