Probably looked better before they tried. I guess it’s a maybe a good idea to know what your doing before trying and getting a result like this.
Kaye...Sand and restain.
You will have to refinish top. Strip or sand off old finish, clean, restain and add a few coats of poly.
You can try using yellow & brown markers, but it takes having a lot of marker colors & blending with the grain as you go.
Mix salt and alcohol and rub the surface with a piece of cloth.
Sand the spot with 220 grit sandpaper overlapping about 1/2" around the spot down to raw wood. Then use matching stain color and seal with a water based polyurethane.
You can also chalk paint the top.
Sand it & paint a design over it, or a decal (probably the easiest way, sand a little bit, clean it, decal, then seal it with polyurethane spray or minwax for a shiny, water resistant, beautiful outcome!
Also, stenciling over it is an option as well!
Stencil a a few big flowers, or swirls?!?
..then basically the same process as anice.
Depending on the shine you want, more coats of wax or poly spray will be needed.
Drying in-between is important but overnight should work then another coat.. ECT..
Modge Podge & material too!
