As far as I can see, rustic is In the eye of the beholder. But the one thing cabinets require is sanding on the corners and edges to make them look worn and used. Some people use white paint for the cabinets, but every other color and stain has been used. If the hardware is new brass, you want to change to any metallic with a patina that comes over time, or just old designs fro the time period you like. To me, rustic is whatever I grew up with, which would from the 1870s to the 1950s. Lots of pine and crochet. Have a good time with it. It’s hard to go wrong with rustic.
