How do I get rid of a tree stump?
How do I get rid of a tree stump without having to have it ground out? I have read that you can drill holes and put something in them, but I don’t remember what it was.

is it still a live tree stump or has the stump died been sitting awhile already? If it's live you need to put Round-Up in the holes to kill it before you can even begin to get it to decompose . As far as getting it to die then decompose faster people say salt but that just kills the microbes that break the wood down. Covering it with decomposing wet organic matter(keep it wet) works, how fast depends on size of stump. Digging out center and burning them is the fastest https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZXMcGAwQ0A here bunch of videos https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=diy+tree+stump+removal
We drilled holes in ours. Then we put dirt around the stump and put rock or railroad ties around it to hold the dirt in. Then we planted annual flowers in the little raised garden. Within three years we dug away the dirt and the stump had decomposed. The neighbors loved our little flower garden and were sorry to see it gone.
We drilled plenty of 1 inch diameter holes, filled them with Epson salts, and covered it to keep it dry. It quickly killed the stump, and dried it out. Doesn't get rid of it, but does prevent re-growth.
Drill one inch holes in the stump. Pour in rock salt in the holes. Dampen the salt. Should kill and dry out the stump over time.
