How to arrange a move?
Hi Homework team,We will soon move and want our new home to be ready to receive our furniture, 2000 books and a "baby grand piano" that weighs a "ton". In the living room in the new house there is carpet and we intend to change that in "laminate" flooring.. which will be more resistant and permit the piano to move on a more solid floor. Is that a good solution? I will have to ask more questions from you later when making the best use of the relatively small surfaces. Thank you in advance.

Definitely put down new flooring before the move. In the areas of your home that will get the most traffic during the move in, you might consider putting down contractor thick paper to protect your new floors. https://www.amazon.com/Trimaco-Contractors-X-Paper-36-inch-120-feet/dp/B01MD13XU7
Do as much to your new home BEFORE moving in such as the new floors and perhaps building a wall of shelves for all your books. As Deb suggested, when you are actually moving in, it would be a good plan to have heavy duty paper or drop cloths placed in the traffic areas to protect your new flooring. Since you are planning to move, use the time before to go through all your belongings and pare down things you don't need. This will reduce the stress of moving it and finding a home for items you don't need or use anyway. Good luck on the move to your new home!
I like the new luxury vinyl that looks like wood, but is scratch proof as well as water proof.
We have a baby grand piano and it weighs around 500lbs. I suggest researching the weight of your baby grand and then check the weight limit on the flooring you choose to go with. We have our sitting on solid hardwood floors and we do not have any dents or dipping. With laminate flooring, it is not solid and CAN be not as strong. Just be sure to research beforehand!
Thank you.. dear Gathered in the kitchen... We wish we could afford solid wood but here in the UK .. that is really above our budget ... but our Baby Grand is a must as it is nearly a therapy for my partner... Thank you all so very much.
Hello, man. I was in your situation, so I'll help you. Some years ago, I had to move because of work, but I left it only some months ago and created my own online company. I wanted to move back near to my parents, because they now are old enough, so I want to spend more time with them. I had a lot of things, boxes of clothes and many electrical devices, like you have now. Frankly speaking, I didn't have faith in myself. But likely for me, my friend recommended me man and van London, who came at that moment and very attentive loaded all in the truck, and transported to my new house very quickly. I was surprised how they worked. I liked it, so I can recommend them to you. The money, which can be saved making the moving by yourself, doesn't worth it.
You didn't indicate if your new home has plaster or drywall. If drywall, please note the acoustical absorption will be poor, regarding your piano, and could be amplified with laminate floor. Why not invest in a piano stand that fits under your baby grand but permits it to be easily pushed around on heavy duty wheeled frame? Also, as you've moved previously, you're aware of the need for certified piano movers. Not all movers know how to safely handle pianos.
If you new residence lacks window coverings, get them up in advance, for privacy sake.
Box the books in manageable weightloads, and label. Have locks changed on your new home as soon as you move in. Anything you can move yourself should save on moving fees.
Pack a "move in day" boxfboxes of everything the two of you will need in the first two days ( clothes, toiletries, towels, soaps, sleepwear, outerwear, coffeemaker, coffee, creamer, sugar, cups, glasses, plates, cutlery, knives, napkins, papertowels, bath tissue, etc.) , so you're better able to relax. Have food readily available, as it may be a very long day.
Been through this many times. Wish you the best of luck.
We just put laminate flooring in and we are so happy with it. I think you'll love it. https://www.exquisitelyunremarkable.com/2022/05/installing-vinyl-plank-flooring.html
