I used contact paper in a pattern I liked and used it in a bathroom where it got a lot of use. When we sold the house it was still there and looked brand new. Do get the heavier one that is more durable.
I painted mine ! I used advance paint from Benjamin Moore and their primer, they were about $40 each. I cleaned the counters well , then I used a sanding sponge to scuff them lightly. Make sure to wipe them and remove all the dust!!!.
I used one coat of primer and 2 coats of paint ! No sealer, I have plenty of paint left over if it needs another coat at some point. I did it 2 years ago and they have held up well , but I am careful , and I use a cutting board and I use a trivet for hot pots .
