Drain cover—one or two screws loosened and off the cover comes. BIG hint: Use squeegee after every single shower and the tile walls and glass will need real cleaning much less frequently. Train everybody in the house.
I understand about the training. Hubby and I were highly motivated and it still took us months. I bought a plastic squeegee, all hard plastic, no sponge edges, for $1 at an auto parts store, and hung it with a suction cup hook at first, and now, ten years later, on a peg from the plastic shampoo rack over the shower head. Hubby now has to do all deep cleaning, so we hire a young lady (everybody else these days is young, including our doctors, to come every couple of months and scrub what we can’t reach. And I love Scrubbing Bubbles spray as well as my vinegar-baking soda-Dawn-water scrubbing paste, and I don’t have to bend or stretch.
We would like a much larger shower with a tiled bench, with removing the old unused spa tub, and a linen closet and expanded vanity. The estimates we got were $16,000-$24,000, and that was with generic subway tile. But it would take a contractor, plumber, electrician, and a carpenter, all state-licensed, with city approvals on each step, not counting a new ceiling and floor, and any water/drainage pipe work outside. We are too close to the grave for all that. We’d rather be cruising!
Best wishes on your shower. Get a rainfall shower head 🚿!
